Heat Wave
Most of the time when the central coast or southern CA has a heatwave, we might get temperatures as high as 80 or maybe 85 on a hot day, and by 2 pm the breeze from the ocean moves in and you just open your doors and windows and let it cool you off. Well this week we've been hit by the heatwave, 90's and 100's. Our high was 106 degrees. The highest temperature on record for this area is 98 degrees in 1973. Man is it hot here! Not even the breeze off the ocean is helping to cool it down. In fact the wind is hot. I don't know if any of you have ever experienced the Santa Ana winds that blow in the fall, but man the air is as hot as that. It feels like a blow dryer is on hot and just blowing on you. It is cooler to close your windows and endure the heat without the hot wind. Of course since we are by the ocean, the air is humid, and since we usually have a pretty mild climate, there is no such thing as air conditioning in many houses or buildings here. The past week it has been 90 degrees by 8 a.m. in the morning, you break a sweat just from drying yourself off from your shower. Last night the kids played with the neighbors slip and slide, and we ate cold cereal outside because no one wanted anything hot because at 6pm it was still 101 degrees. I'm just whining though, and wishing we had air conditioning, or had a close building with air conditioning. I think it is a night to go out and eat to get relief from the heat.
