One of my kids shut a gate on Heidi's thumb, while they were with a babysitter. It bled a little bit, and she didn't even cry. She was using it and it didn't seem to bother her so we decided to just watch it, and figured she would lose her nail... it really didn't look that bad. Then after a week, it was still swollen and looked like it had some pressure on the nail, so I took her in. The doctor said let's take an xray of it to be sure, and that was an adventure... you try sitting at that xray table with lead aprons on you and a squirmy 1 year old, and try to get her to hold her hand certain ways so the nurse could get xrays.. I think my hand was in a couple of them too. Finally the doc came in and said yep it was broken. Luckily it had set itself right, I guess if that is what you call it, so there won't be any lasting damage. Of course she wouldn't leave a splint on and the doctor said since she is using it, to just let it heal and watch it, and the nail would fall off... so pretty much what we were already doing.
Jason tried to get a picture of it, and that was like trying to give a cat a bath... kind of like how it was trying to take the xray too.
