Name that Gourd...

OK, someone gave me this vegetable. I'm thinking it's a kind of squash, right? Hannah says it looks like a misshapen pumpkin and she isn't going to eat it. Any ideas on how to prepare and cook it? who knows, it might go good with our grilled salmon tonight. It's kinda big too.

Looks like a butternut squash to me! Very tasty. I usually just half it lengthwise, scoop out the seeds and fibers, put cut side up in a 9x13 with a little water in the bottom (about 1/4 inch or so), cover with foil and bake for about 40 min. at 375. It will be nice and soft when done. (You can also leave the cover off if you want it to get browned on top.) You can serve with butter, salt & pepper or brown sugar and a little cinnamon. You can also scoop out the cooked squash and mash it like potatoes. That's tasty, too. Hope that helps! Sounds like a yummy dinner!

It's a butternut squash. They are pretty good. You cut it in half, take out the seeds like a pumpkin or mellon, and peel it - not the easiest. Then cut it in cubes and put it in the oven or frying pan with some butter and brown sugar. You can get fancy and add raisins and cinamon if you want. Cook it until it is soft.
